Carpet Cleaning with Rug Doctor in Boulder CO

January 20th, 2012

At Boulder Carpet Cleaning Masters we want you to have a pleasant carpet cleaning experience even if you are using a Rug Doctor. We often get calls from people who have made their rugs much worse after renting a portable cleaner simply because they did not know the proper methodology for cleaning carpets. After reading this article you should be able to use a Rug Doctor effectively.
The first step to any carpet cleaning is a thorough vacuuming of the carpet prior to the carpet getting wet. An average 9 x 12 rug can hold an amazing 85 pounds of dry soil! Once the carpets are thoroughly vacuumed we need to pre-treat the fibers with a soap designed to loosen the soils and stains that are attached to the carpet fibers. The soap needs to dwell anywhere from two to twenty minutes to suspend the soils so that we can rinse the dirt out. The hotter the pre spray is the more powerful it will become. Once you reach 118 degrees every 18 degrees hotter doubles the ability of the soap to loosen the dirt and stains. Mix and apply the pre spray according to the directions. If you have oil based stains you will need to use a solvent spotter to break the oils bond to the carpet fiber prior to rinsing. If you have the ability to agitate the carpet prior to extraction, do so. Use hot water in your Rug Doctor to extract the soap and dirt. You can add a little vinegar to the hot water solution to leave the carpets soft. These tips are for synthetic carpets only (not wool). Wool carpets need neutral cleaners or the wool will be damaged. If you feel carpet cleaning with a Rug Doctor will not meet your current needs or if you have qustions, please call Boulder Carpet Cleaning Masters at 303-459-2482.

Rug Doctor Carpet Cleaning Problems in Boulder

January 9th, 2012

Boulder Carpet Cleaning Masters had a client this week that ran into a few problems while using a Rug Doctor to clean up a few dog urine stains over the weekend. When we arrived at their home we found a white Berber carpet that had huge yellow stains everywhere. Upon talking to our new client we discovered that she rented a Rug Doctor and cleaned the carpet herself. When she woke up the next day she discovered twice as many stains as the day before. She thought that she was pulling up old urine stains from a previous owner and decided to keep the Rug Doctor an extra day. The second cleaning went even worse than the first and she thought that the carpets were ruined. She finally called us to try and fix the problem.
The problem was not a defective Rug Doctor or a defective operator. The operator was actually very smart and pleasant even after a traumatic carpet cleaning experience. Rug Doctors have a difficult time creating a good vacuum seal on Berber carpet and they tend to vibrate and bounce on the vacuum stroke which leaks out all the dirty water. These puddles of dirty water become large yellow stains when they dry and they look like urine stains. We gave the carpet a light pre-spray to loosen the dirt and then used a special glide wand which creates a good vacuum seal and we were able to return the Berber carpets to a nice bright white color absent of the urine stains and water stains.

Pet Odors in Boulder CO

December 29th, 2011

All year we live with our pets and their odors without a second thought. Our dogs and cats pee, throw up and do their dodo business on a daily basis and we give in to those cute little faces and clean up the messes the best we can. It is only when our Mother-in-law is visiting for the Holidays or if we are chosen to host the office party that we notice that particular pet odor that emanates from our carpets. What can we do?
The first thing we must consider is how bad is the problem and how deeply has the  pet urine penetrated into our carpets. Has it found its way into our subfloor or our cement slab? If it has we need to clean and seal the urine at its deepest level. Every other effort will be futile unless we address the collected urine that has migrated to the subfloor. Bleach is a cheap cleaner that does a great job for destroying odor on concrete but don’t let it get onto the carpet or it will be ruined. After cleaning the subfloor we must seal it with Kilz or Bins to prevent it from escaping and off gassing. The carpet pad is the next level of contamination that needs to be addressed. Just cut it out and replace it with new pad. Pad is cheap and not worth the effort necessary to rid it of pet odors.
We must attack the pet odors in the carpet from both the carpet backing and the carpet fibers. Spray the backing heavily with an odor enzyme like Natures Miracle. You leave this chemical alone and let the enzymes eat the urine and the bacteria will keep reproducing enzymes as long as there is moisture. You may need to spray the backing and face yarns several times to remove the odors. You need to use as much odor neutralizer as there is pet urine in the carpet. Leave the odor neutralizer alone and let it do its job, don’t scrub or rinse.
I had a carpet cleaning job in Boulder last week which had a landing covered in cat urine. The cat urine was on the baseboards, carpet, pad and subfloor. The client was hoping that a simple carpet cleaning would do the trick. Bummer. If you keep up on pet stains and spray them with enzymes as they occur you can keep them in check as long as you clean the carpets on a regular basis. Using regular soap will only set the pet stains and not break down the pet odor molecules.

Should I Clean My Carpets This Winter?

December 22nd, 2011

Many of us shy away from carpet cleaning during the winter months. The idea of having the front door open when it is 20 degrees outside just seems like a very cold and crazy idea. Why clean when it might snow again next week? Just a few of the reasons we all wait until spring before we clean. Very few people know that carpet is the biggest filter we have in our homes to capture allergens, soils, pollutants, germs and bacteria. This filter becomes full after six months of use and all the things that used to be captured by the carpet are now circulating in the air we breathe. Is it any wonder why we tend to get sick more often during the winter months? Winter is the time of the year that we spend the most time inside hiding from the cold and embracing all those germs and pollutants.

Door Guards are available to seal off the front door from all the cold air on the outside of the house. This should help keep the inside temperature of the house comfortable and normal. Simply turning up the heat for a few hours can help dry the carpets quickly and we will lend blowers to families who wish to speed up the drying process. Boulder Carpet Cleaning Masters main goal is to keep our clients healthy and happy.

Is Carpet Cleaning an Art or Science?

May 6th, 2009

Well, if carpet cleaning is all about a brush, shampoo, and a bucketful of water (as some may think are adequate) … it would be neither. The truth is that to a professional carpet cleaner, carpet cleaning is both, an art AND a science … and who’d know better than a Carpet Cleaning in Boulder Colorado specialist?

Now, why would a professional Carpet Cleaning in Boulder Colorado company believe that carpet cleaning is an art and science? The answer is simple. Just as a Carpet Cleaning in Broomfield Colorado or Carpet Cleaning in Longmont Colorado specialist would also tell you, carpet cleaning is an ‘art’ when the company you hire knows fully well how to plan and execute a carpet cleaning project, without damaging your furniture, trim, and furnishings, and is also well-versed in the art of using state-of-the-art, technology; equipment; and carpet cleaning chemicals and disinfectants. Carpet Cleaning Is Serious Business

May 6th, 2009

Well the fact remains, how many really know this, or care? Much before the advent of modern technology, powerful cleaning chemicals, and the skilled, carpet cleaning technicians we have today, a can of shampoo, a bucketful of water, and strong hands and back, were all that people needed to clean their carpets. As a result, carpets were often damaged, bacteria-laden, dull in appearance, and had significantly shorter lives.

The truth is that in Colorado today, there are many carpet cleaning companies who either, do not take carpet cleaning seriously; lack the proper equipment; or are inefficient or unqualified to carry out a professional job. On the other hand, you’ll find a Carpet Cleaning in Broomfield Colorado, Carpet Cleaning in Boulder Colorado, or Carpet Cleaning in Longmont Colorado company who are not only highly qualified, experienced, and equipped, but leave no stone unturned when carrying out carpet cleaning projects for their clients.
